The company’s origins trace back to 1985, when its founder obtained a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license and began chartering vessels ranging from 24 to 100 feet. Over the years, this work included multi-day offshore fishing trips, nature and wildlife cruises, and whale-watching excursions, including operations aboard larger passenger vessels carrying up to 150 passengers. These operations required precise navigation, disciplined seamanship, and constant awareness of tides, currents, weather, and vessel traffic.

During those years on the water, nautical charts were consulted daily for passage planning, hazard avoidance, and decision-making in changing conditions. That professional reliance on charts instilled a lasting respect for their precision, clarity, and purpose.

In 1991, alongside time spent at sea, the founder established a custom marine graphics and printing business serving the boating and maritime industry. The work demanded exacting standards—graphics had to be precise, legible, durable, and correct the first time. As the business grew, it became recognized as an industry leader in advanced printing technology and execution. Major manufacturers of high-end professional printing equipment regularly invited the founder to demonstrate new systems at national trade shows, relying on his expertise as a trusted professional user to showcase the most advanced technology available.

Building on this production expertise, the business expanded into retail with a prime-location storefront in Mystic, Connecticut, a historic maritime town with deep nautical roots.
